Not advice
Nothing published on this site is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. The material is general information about a public market and a public protocol, written for a general reader. It is not tailored to your circumstances, your objectives, your tax position or your tolerance for risk, and it cannot be, because the publisher does not know any of those things and does not ask.
The site does not recommend that anyone buy, sell, hold or avoid bitcoin or any other asset. It does not tell you when to act, how much to allocate, or what the price will do next. Where a page describes what has happened in the past, it is describing the record, not suggesting that the record will repeat.
The risk is real
Bitcoin is a volatile asset and its history is a history of severe declines. A reader should understand that before using anything here.
Prices fall, and stay down
Bitcoin has fallen by more than seventy per cent from a peak several times, and on more than one occasion it took years to regain the previous high. A holder who bought near a peak has waited through long periods of loss. The tables on this site document those declines in full.
You can lose everything you put in
The value of a holding can go to zero. There is no deposit insurance, no compensation scheme and no counterparty obliged to make you whole. Anyone who cannot afford to lose the money they are considering putting into an asset should not put it there.
Custody carries its own risk
Holding bitcoin means holding keys, or trusting someone else to hold them. Both arrangements have failure modes: lost keys are unrecoverable, and an exchange or custodian can fail, freeze withdrawals or be compromised. The site explains these mechanics but does not advise on which arrangement suits you.
Rules and taxes differ by jurisdiction
How an asset is treated for tax, whether it may be held or traded, and what reporting is required all depend on where you live and who you are. Nothing here addresses any of that. A qualified professional in your own jurisdiction is the only appropriate source for it.
Accuracy of the data
The figures on this site are compiled from public sources and checked against one another where two sources overlap. They are published with the source and vintage attached so a reader can judge them. They have not been audited by a third party, and no warranty is given that any figure is accurate, complete or current.
The live BTC/USD reading is a cached snapshot from a single exchange and may lag the market by a few minutes. It is a reading rather than a settled record, and it will differ from the price available to a buyer elsewhere. The data sources and methodology page sets out the limits of the compiled record in full, including the periods where it is genuinely uncertain.
Where a figure here is wrong, the publisher wants to know. Corrections are made on the page and described rather than applied silently. The contact page explains how to report one.
No liability for decisions
Any decision you make after reading this site is your own. The publisher is not responsible for the outcome of a trade, an investment, a custody arrangement or a tax position taken in reliance on anything published here. The site describes a record; it does not direct anyone to act on it.
If you are considering putting money into bitcoin or any other asset, the appropriate step is to consult a qualified professional who knows your circumstances, and to satisfy yourself that you understand what you are buying and what you could lose. Nothing on this site is a substitute for that.
The terms of use set out the full limitation of liability, and they form part of this disclaimer.
